A chapter devoted to ethical and legal issues in working with children in family counseling provides a much-needed overview of this often overlooked topic. Chapters include discussion of specific skills relevant to child counseling in the family context, case vignettes and examples, practical tips for the counselor, and handouts for parents.

The best overview of contemporary art

I have - for professional reasons - read several introductions to contemporary art written in the late 90s, and this is by far the best. Hopkins does not only have a great knowledge on the field but he is also good at writing about it, and furthermore he is up to date with the latest scholary researches on the field without being academic in his way of formulating it.
I recommend this for students and scholars as well as for the just interested. No matter who you are, you will definitely know much more about contemporary art than before, and have a lot of good color reproductions of the works as well.

Here are some responses of undergrads at a liberal arts college in a seminar on contemporary art-
Student 1:
1. The book was interesting and well developed...it moved at a steady pace
and was consistent.
2. Hopkins used too many difficult words that weren't familiar and he was
unclear as to the main objective in some of his chapters.
3. In some areas of the book, Hopkins only touched on some of the artists
who seemed important and went too into depth on a few others. He needed to
keep that aspect of the book consistent...the rest was well done.
Student 2:
Hopkins used many examples of Contemporary Art that were very relative to the concepts he explained. While they helped me to understand his ideas, some of his writing was very difficult to understand. He was wordy and used many uncommon terms making reading slow and hard to comprehend. This would be an excellent book for those who are in the advanced stages of learning about Contemporary Art.
Student 3:
Hopkins does a wonderful job of providing ample examples for the reader.
However, he does not do a very good job of explaining the examples without
creating some confusion. Hopkin's also uses a vocabulary that is too
advanced for the undergraduate reader that this book is intended for.
Student 4:
Hopkins used some very interesting examples to try and create a new way of looking at the transition from modern to post-modern art. I think that the book is mislabled as a beginner book, since from the start the author assumes that we have a strong basic knowledge of art history. To be fair the issue he is talking about in this book is so complex that writing an introduction is a very difficult task, I think that Hopkins did a good job.
Student 5:
-The book takes a different view on 20th century art, and helps put things
in a historic context.
-The book is difficult to understand at times, and seems to be at a higher
than introductory level.
-Some of the references to works are vague, and they are hard to connect to
the photos.

This is one of the more interesting modern art books I've had. It's goes beyond a discussion of the artwork and places everything in a historical context. It also discusses the artist's relationships and attitudes and how they are influenced by and how they influence their times.
Overall, good book if you're into modern art.

Real Talk For Real Men and Women

"What My Father Never Taught Me about Being a Real Man", is an excellent book for both men and women! It's very down to earth and an easy read, covering everything from how to raise your young man to relationships to 'baby mama drama'. As a single mom, this book gave me some great insights on how to deal with my teenage son. It also brought up some awesome relationship topics that I'm sure most women don't think about. You don't have to think like a man to get a man, but understanding a Real Man will allow you to be honest with yourself and your potential mate. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone looking to gain more insight to life's issues that we do not always discuss. I definitely plan on gifting this book to a few men and women. No matter your gender, race, or religion this books speaks to everyone!

Just finished reading this book. I highly recommend to all men & young men. It gave me a lot of insight on how I need to grow & move at being a man. Certain things I knew, but many things I learned & that's what being a man is about, learning, growing & building yourself up for greatness. Constantly growing to be better. I also recommend this book to women not only to give to their sons & brothers or any man in their lives but also to understand how men think & how a real man should be. Exactly as the title says

The title says it all: short chapters dealing with the behavior that should be exhibited in situations as diverse as stores, cell phones, driving, Facebook, interviews, sex, voting, watching movies. Not only are the chapters short, the entire book is too, with certain passages repeated in large print, so it’s over pretty quickly. And why is the accompanying graphic a woman’s shoe?
I have no complaints about the text or the ideas. This is a well-written and meaningful book for our times, though it is sad to realize how much it is needed. Yet it’s for that very same reason that I doubt it will do much good. The author writes, “It’s no insult to find out you’ve been wrong. It stinks, but try to be happier that you learned the truth instead of bummed out that you were wrong.” This is the most important passage, because it personifies the hopelessly optimistic tone of this book. Everything is well said, and most people would benefit from reading it. . . but the problem is most people won’t read it because they don’t think they need it, and those who do read it will never admit any of this applies to them. The entire time I was reading I felt like this was all great, but no one is going to follow this advice. And that made me sad. . .

Clear, Concise, & Funny

The book is short, concise, and a great discussion launcher. My 24 year old nephew read this book, in my presence, and we discussed many of the topics covered. Mark Dupre is a seasoned leader who has worked with twenty-somethings for decades. His presentation is clear, gleaned from his experience. I highly recommend this for teens and twenties or for those who are older but are still growing up!

I didn't find this book of any use for me. It doesn't even contain answers for the questions at the end of each chapter. It was expensive too, and I don't know how to get rid of it. However, maybe it's just me... My friend, who I took a course together with - loves it.

Beautiful projects! Great instructions, info and photos.

This book is beautiful. The projects combine wonderful plants and charming elements to make gorgeous decorations you will thoroughly enjoy looking at. If you are the type that love low maintenance plants these are a great choice. The first part of the book includes all you need to know to propagate succulents which is really helpful if you can get clippings from your friend's yard or their plants. The containers for lots of the projects are made with recycled items and some are built with simple supplies you may already have around the house. This book is filled with ideas that I can't wait to try!

Love this Book

This book is amazing. It's helped boost my confidence in succulents. I tried DIY's before, many... But both the instructions and pictures make projects clear and concise. I've tried most of the projects: the vial neclaces, the vertical frames, the pumpkins ... I've found success with all of them and enjoyed giving the final products to friends as presents or decorating my home with them. Proof of this book is in the results and here is a picture of me following her propagation instructions. Can't wait to do more from the book!

Gorgeous and Helpful

I just can't stop flipping through the pages because the photographs are so beautiful! I've always been able to keep my succulents alive but was always overwhelmed with the idea of propagating or trying to make something with them and then killing them. Tawni's book has taken the mystery out of it and now I can't wait to make my first succulent project! This would be a great gift for any gardener or crafty friend but makes a lovely coffee table addition, as well.

Gillian Brock is Associate Professor in Philosophy at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Typical Riyria fun

I enjoyed this short story from Michael Sullivan very much. In fact, I have loved all of the Riyria stories that Sullivan has produced. And, finally, I now know the correct way to pronounce Riyria. The story was interesting and the characters compelling. This is the first audio book I’ve listened to so it was a difference experience than I am used to. Narrator Tim Gerard Reynolds did a great job on all the voices. I recommend this book for anyone who likes the Riyria series and and indeed anyone who likes the fantasy genre.

Back in the saddle with Royce and Hadrian!

Kristin, a young woman, wants Royce and Hadrian to kidnap her. She'll pay, of course. She wants a man to know she exists. Hoping the plan to disappear, her father the Lord panic, and the young man come to her rescue. What Royce and Hadrian uncover in her place is far more dangerous than a simple job. And a deeper plan than they expected to find.

Tim Gerard Reynolds, once again, is the narrator for our duo. He does an amazing job with the dry humor banter between Royce and Hadrian. His emotion shows for our men, Royce a bit not caring and Hadrian a bit of caring and worry. Along with doing a voice tone difference for Kristin. His pacing is well done. I slipped right into the world of Royce and Hadrian with ease here.

This is the classic Royce and Hadrian we know! Royce cracks me up with his observation of Kristin along with his offhand honesty. We do, for a flash, see a softer side of Royce. *gasp* For a moment as the look crosses his face, but then it's gone. Hadrian is as caring as ever. He just can't say no. And the tall tale 'easy job' he always things he's getting them into becomes so much more. We get to see Hadrian's talent with disarming and a quick look at him with a sword.

Do you have to read others before this? No. This one can stand on it's own. It will give you a great feel for the characters personalities. If you loved this story, I highly suggest picking up all the books in the world with them. This is what you'll get.

There are hints to Royce and Hadrian, how they are now along with touches of their history or hinting at a history is present. There's even a drop referencing The Jester, nothing big but a nice way to tie everything together.

Michael has done a wonderful job with the duo here. Boy, this story really re-awoke my love for the characters.

Very fun fantasy read and stand alone well.

This was a well done short story featuring Hadrian and Royce from the Riyria Chronicles. I got this on audiobook for free from Audible.com. This can be read as a stand alone and was very entertaining and ironic. I enjoyed it a lot.

This story has a lot of the clever banter, which these two characters are known for. The story seems pretty straightforward (and a bit ridiculous) to start but as things unfold you find out that there are many layers to this heiress’s simple request.

Overall a very fun and entertaining read and free! I would definitely recommend to fantasy fans who enjoy some humor and mystery in their stories. This made me want to go up and pick up the only Riyria book I haven’t read yet; The Death of Dulgath.

Excellent book, but becoming dated

As a beginning Script supervisor, this book was recommended first and foremost by everyone who I spoke to about training. It does cover all the necessary functions of a script supervisor. If you're looking for comprehensive coverage of the job then this book will do it.

The limitations are that it is an old book. The last revision occurred 14 years ago when using the internet and computers to script supervise were starting to take hold. Now with that said, I've worked on numerous film set, some of them in the tens of millions of dollars, and most script supervisors still didn't use a computer, so it isn't essential. Commercials are another story and nearly all of them with major accounts that I've worked on (in non-script roles) the scripty used a computer.

Another issue I've noticed is that film really isn't used much on many films. Everything is digital so there is much more dead footage because the director decides to keep rolling and take from the top. If you're not on top of stuff, you'll quickly lose track of what's going on. Experience and mentoring count for a lot.

Still if you need an introduction then this is the go-to book for script supervising.

Necessary resource, if unglamorous treatment

Miller's book provides the necessary foundational data one will need before getting into script supervising. Her writing doesn't exactly scintillate with humor like some of the new "guerilla filmmaking" books out there today -- she tends to write like a 1950s schoolteacher, precise and methodical -- but in an admittedly esoteric specialization of the industry where there are only a few books on the topic available, you really don't have a lot of options and you'll need this book. It's NOT sufficient for giving one the complete training needed to actually work as a script supervisor, however. Whoever wrote that you can learn what you need to know "on set" is just asking for trouble -- it's like thinking you can read a book on piloting an airplane and just get behind the yoke and learn "what you need to know" in the air. On a "real" film set (not some zero-budget digicam or student project that no one will ever see) mistakes are EXPENSIVE. Mistakes by a poorly trained s.s. can cost thousands of dollars (not including the cost of therapy when the director and editor go bonkers trying to cut the film from the scripty's notes.) Trying to learn on a "real" set could make it the first and the last real movie set you'll ever work on. I value Miller's book but it must be combined with a good course of study with a real-life teacher who can answer your questions. A course that includes on-the-job training and followup and information on how to research and obtain real jobs doing script supervising is critical -- obviously no book can contain all this. I found Jim Kelly Durgin's course to be helpful in this regard, and there may be others out there too if you look for them. BTW, I don't feel that the 3rd edition of the Miller book is substantially different or better than the 2nd, so if you need to save some money, you'll do just fine with the 2nd edition. I agree that she is old-fashioned (she doesn't deal _at all_ with the new continuity software on the market, a huge omission) but, again, there aren't that many books about this subject readily available.

Interesting and informative even if you are not in the buisines

Although the book is not up to date with current technology (and really who can keep up) the basic core concepts remain.

If you are thinking of going to film school or going to become a script supervisor it is a must read--as it spells out the most important part of the job..........there is a tremendous time commitment..........it's a cool job but you will work many long hours and you cannot miss a day.........this info alone is worth the $$.

Whether the job requirements scare you or not there is a wealth of info for any field in the industry, because guess what...the script supervisor has to keep track of all of it!

As a layman it's a cool insight into what goes on in the film industry--if you want to know and appreciate all that goes into a production pick up this book!
