Really hate it when a writer doesn't have enough faith in ...

Really hate it when a writer doesn't have enough faith in their own writing. This was the first installment, and in order to read the whole story, you have to buy the remaining 3 books. Each is very short, like 3 or 4 chapters in a normal book, so if you want the whole story, be prepared to pay.

Honest review for advanced copy

I think that this book could have been a good story, but I just felt the characters had no real depth to them. I really wanted to like Stacy, but I couldn't get behind her character when she gave into Henry so easily. Unfortunately, she really had no personality. I've read a lot of books from the romance genre and I just couldn't get excited about this one. I was actually a little disturbed by the willingness of a group of women to all have a sexual relationship with the same man they work with and be okay with discussing their experiences within the workplace - it just rubbed me the wrong way. The author's writing style was pretty good, but I think more thought needed to go into the plot besides just the sex scenes. I liked that there was a plot twist at the end of the story, but it's just not enough for me to want to read the next in the series.

The story was okay and the characters lacked depth. There was a little of a surprise at the end considering the rest of story was fairy tale esq. While some of the scenes were descriptive, they lacked passion and left me filled with more wonder than fulfillment.

About the Author

Born in Malaysia in 1857 to a Chinese father and Portuguese mother, Gu Hongmingstudi ed in Scotland. He received an M.A. in Literature from the University of Edinburgh, a diploma in Civil Engineering at the University of Leipzig, and studied law in Paris. Returning to Malaysia in 1880, he joined the colonial Singapore civil service and eventually went to China where he held many ranking positions in the Imperial government. Throughout his career, he wrote many essays and books about Confucius, primarily in English. By the end of his life in 1928 he was renowned as an interpreter of China and the Chinese people to the West. Dr. Jinli He, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University.

A scholar viewpoint on the spirit of Chinese people

This is a scholar work from Dr Gu who mastered nine languages with 13 PhDs in royal English. He expressed in English and French what he witnessed the Foreign Powers in imperialism and colonialism in China. He commented what the Protestant missionaries did in China in "civilizing" heathen Chinese. He saw that Western Civilization in China was basically Darwinism of jungle law. He wrote beautifully in introducing the essentials of Chinese civilization of five thousand years to Westerns who were impressed and amazed that a "Chinaman" was able to master the language eloquently Understanding both Chinese culture and Western culture enable him to compare and contrast the good and bad, justice and injustice, true and false. He saw the Western men of God act contrary to God's teaching of respecting others, causing confrontations, ill-feelings and hatred. He tried to act according to Confucius's teaching"do not do onto others what you do not want to do onto you".

This classical writing will help readers to comprehend the turn of last century happening in China between China and Foreign Powers. We need more Dr Gu to share for the modern world.

Interesting

While I did not agree with many of the viewpoints put forth by the author, I found the book fascinating. The logic of his arguments was so interesting. I also recognized the influence of the times and culture in which he lived. The book allowed me to learn a bit more about a very prominent Chinese author and philosopher.

Reaper's Justice is the first in the Reapers series. A new paranormal western about men who were changed against their will into werewolves. These men struggle with the `animal' inside them that hungers to break free, which leads them to live apart from others and alone.

Isaiah Jones is a Reaper, a werewolf used during the end of the Civil War. He was kidnapped, injected and tortured. He lives alone and has no memories of his early life. But the war is now over and the land is as desolate as Isaiah. He wanders in his territory and watches over the lovely Adelaide Cameron. Isaiah is attracted to Adelaide and it makes him feel warm knowing she is alive and well. Adelaide fascinates him, and she is unaware that he is protecting her from afar. But the one time he isn't there, he discovers that Adelaide has been kidnapped by ruthless men. Isaiah rushes to save her. And although she is grateful, she is wary of the aura of danger and potent sexuality that he exudes.

This is an exciting new series. I love the idea of Reapers and hope the author reveals more about their past and how they were changed. Isaiah is a fascinating character who longs for something more but is afraid of who he has become. His glimpses of Adelaide and how he wishes for another, gentler life filled with caring, and maybe love, make him a very sympathetic character. Once Isaiah is forced to save her, he learns that perhaps he can live another life. Because while Adelaide is at 1st afraid of Isaiah, she soon learns to trust him. (She even proposes to him to have sex!) Adelaide is in turns bold and sassy but also shy and unsure. When she was younger, she was kidnapped by Indians and can only survive when she can completely control her environment. When she is kidnapped again, she must face her fears again. The only quibble I have with this book is that is moves very slowly in certain areas. It takes a while before Adelaide is actually rescued, and they spend time together by themselves. I wanted more interaction between the two main characters and a faster pace.

Readers who love this author's books will enjoy this fresh start to her new Reapers paranormal series. No one writes westerns like Sarah McCarty. I just wished that the pace had been more even.

Too much left unexplained

I usually enjoy this author's work. This book however was not as good as usual. There was too much left unexplained. Who created the reapers? How can the technology/medical knowledge to create reapers be available in the 18060s? What was the full story with the heroine's background and her cousins? I like to think the author is setting the stage for further books in this series where these questions and others will be answered but right now I'm too annoyed to think that I will read further books in this series.

Review: Reaper's Justice

This is my first experience reading author Sarah McCarty as well as my first experience with a historical paranormal romance. I’m not quite sure how I feel about Reaper’s Justice . It’s got wolf shifter’s, cowboy’s and the old west. Things I enjoy reading about.

Isaiah, a Reaper, is sweet and dominant, he has a brutal past, has trouble coming to terms with the wolf inside him, but is protective of one women that has calmed his inner best.

Addy is strong yet has some issues, with a past that is never fully explained only hinted at, she still manages to keep her cool when most women in that time period and situation would have given into hysterics.

Some interesting characters are introduced to us along the way. We meet Billings/Blade another Reaper, who shows up at odd times, has some witty comments and played a roll in helping Isaiah and Addy out. I am interested in reading his story. We are also introduced to Cole and Reese, Addy’s cousins, who are very protective of her almost to the point of suffocation. It felt a little short meeting the cousins and it was never full explained how Reese new so much about Reapers or how Cole could hold his own with a Reaper. I wonder if their is more to this?

The intimacy between Addy and Isaiah was quick, though Isaiah has been watching over Addy for a year in secret, they only had been together for a day before hitting the sack, but it did not feel like an insta-love thing. It felt right and the love grew over time as they both got to know each other. The only thing that bothered me was the descriptive monolog it was a little much at times. I wanted more spoken blurbs between the characters. The action was intense just not as much as I would have liked or felt should have been in the book.

By the end I had a few questions: Wanted more explanation on the Reapers, their Council and laws as well as Addy’s cousins. I don’t like to have questions at the end, but sometimes it just happens with a book. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to historical paranormal romances or maybe this genre is not my thing. Reaper’s Justice was an ok start to the Shadow Reaper series. It’s not a book I would read again.

Brilliant, funny and accurate book

a good entry point into the world of DJing from simple info on how to beatmatch to more complex issues such as scratching and setting up your gear. Very humourous throughout and inspiring. Never takes the "you don;t know what you are doing" superior attitudes- it aims to inform, share and make you laugh.

Any aspring DJ should not be without it.

It was not clear to me that there were two version (one older and one newer with more electronic updates and not vinyl only). Still good information and not the sellers fault. I just wish it had been more clear that there were two different versions of the book.

for the princesses that have better things to do than kiss boys

My 8yo daughter emphatically does not like princesses as all they do is 'kiss boys'. So I was very surprised when she came home from the book fair with one of these saying she wanted to read more of them. From what I gather, as I haven't had a chance to read them for myself, is each princess has an animal that they rescue. Quote from my daughter, 'they all have a sense of adventure and don't kiss boys'. So, yeah, I would absolutely recommend them.

I have been reading this series aloud to my 5 year old daughter. Shes loves them. Yes, they are predictable, and a little silly. At the same time they have helped my daughter appreciate novels, and not only picture books. We have enjoyed the stories together and she always is very curious to find out what happens next. I would recommend them as a good read aloud for young girls.

Horrible explanations

This book is not a very in-depth book on the principles of california real estate. It covered topics only very breifly, and really sped through them with not a whole lot of explanation. I would highly advise buying a different book if you intend to pass the CA Real Estate Licensing Exam.

Helped ME pass the test.

This is an excellent general introduction to the principles of California real estate. I passed the broker's exam on the first try with no experience as a real estate salesperson and no cram course. This book was a great help in preparing for it. A large percentage of the test questions deal with the principles covered in this book.
