Updating treatment

Dr. Ghaemi is one of the foremost researchers, along with Goodwin, in the area of bipolar disorder. While this book is aimed at the professional audience, it is filled with nuggets of practical information, and provides the patient with an understanding of a rational approach to the treatment of bipolar disorder, including drugs, dosing, side effects, and psychotherapeutic treatment. It is concise and to the point.

An exceptionally concise and coherent handbook which would appear to leave no room for misinterpretation or misdirection in the course of clinician reaching the diagnosis of a mood disorder. In particular, the full bipolar spectrum is propounded magnificently and with great clarity. This is a manual which is written for a professional audience, and therefore I believe the educated lay-reader will benefit significantly from reading this material over any similarly oriented mainstream press. I have, personally, found this book extremely helpful, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly as the most practical and readable book I have ever encountered on the subject of mood disorders.

most useful book in the mood disorders field

This book is very useful...most than anyone in this field. I've working as a clinician and researcher in the area of mood disorder for almost 10 years and I haven't found anything like this book before.
It is precise, with clinical vignettes of real patients for almost every chapter. the author doesn't have fear to gives us his point of view about diagnostics, treatment and the last evidence about mood disorders.
Despite my experience in the field I found that each chapter has something fresh, new.
In the second edition, Ghaemi includes all the new evidence given by the latest and largest clinical trials: STAR*D for depression and STEP-BD for bipolar disorder, and he did this is in a really concise and easy-to-read way.
Not only for medical students or psychiatry residents but also for experts in the field, this book could be a great fresh air over the windows of their daily clinical practices.

"NEVER CALL IT DIRT!"

I purchased this text for a soils and foundation class. On the surface, the text is well put together and it provides clear explanations and calculations to a wide range of soil problems. This book is a keeper because of the ease of the reading and illustrations.
I took a soils class at another school and that course was more speculative and the text I had for that class doesn't compare to this text. This text is more practical and application based which gives you a more hands on feel.
If you are taking a soils course and this is not the required text; I would recommend it as a reference for you.
Good luck in your studies and always remember "NEVER CALL IT DIRT!"
Dirt is dirty and soil is a natural resource of the earth's minerals. :-)

A practical problem-oriented book

This book explains the subject of soils and foundations in a straight-forward manner that is not terse and steeped in needless derivations or largely unnecessarily advanced math. I've even seen one book on this subject that delves into finite element analysis. Instead, this book explains its subject manner succinctly, along with equations, and then uses those equations in numerous examples. There are plentiful diagrams and end-of-chapter exercises with solutions to about half of the problems in the back of the book. I notice that the table of contents is missing from the product description so I add that next:

4 Soil Compaction and Stabilization

Nothing in the book talks about scholastic preparation for this subject, but I would recommend that you have a year of engineering physics and a class on statics. The book's equations also involve some calculus, such as when determining the water content in soil in chapter five, but it is nothing overly involved. Most of the book's mathematics involves nothing more advanced than some trigonometry.

Love this book.

I had to study from the original Magee book, and it could be frustrating at times trying to get all the information about the special tests, as it was buried in text.
This book lays everything out neatly and succinctly. The purpose is clearly labeled, the actions for the test, positive signs, everything very easy to find. Good for a quick reference guide.
It does cut out all of the information about the bones and joints, though, so if you need something in depth, you're better off with the full Magee. But if you would like a quick reference guide, this book is a god-send.
